Established in 2008, the Magpies are New York’s first ever women’s Australian Rules Football team. With numbers growing exponentially since the team’s formation, the Lady Pies seem to have satisfied many New York women’s search for a unique and challenging sport.
The team has played a large role in continuing the expansion of US women’s footy across the states and is making its impact felt as it hosts teams locally, and travels to play in cities such as Milwaukee, Atlanta, Denver, Arizona and Toronto.
In their inaugural season, the Magpies’ women received significant recognition with 8 players selected to travel to Australia to represent the US in competition, as well as the team receiving a large grant from Ashoka Changemakers and Nike for their efforts in promoting the sport of football as part of the Let Me Play initiative.
