Magpies to Represent the USA

freedom dreaThe New York Magpies are proud to announce that 8 of our Magpies have been chosen to represent the USA in Australia this August on the USA Revolution, Freedom, and Liberty national teams.

Congratulations to our Pies, Andrea Casillas, Autumn Ervin, Kim Hemenway, Siobhan McHale, Lissa Regets. Heather Serpico, Alison Vorsatz, and Dan Lehane!

The International Cup

The USA Freedom and Revolution teams will battle against other footy teams from around the world in the International Cup (IC). At the 2014 IC, the women’s competition, only the second in the Cup’s history, has expanded to include 8 women’s teams from 5 in its inaugural year in 2011. The men’s comp will be comprised of over 20 teams in two divisions.

First time Freedom player, Lissa Regets, is looking forward to playing against women who know the game well and bringing some of those skills back to the Magpies. For Regets, it is “an honor to play for the red, white and blue along side some of the greatest athletes in the sport.”

Lady Magpie and Freedom Veteran, Kim Hemenway, is making her third trip Down Under. Hemenway hasn’t rested on her laurels though, saying that the “competition at training camp was fierce and the best I’ve seen since I began playing footy.” For Hemenway, saying this is a huge accomplishment would be an understatement – “I am absolutely thrilled to represent my country, and I can’t wait to show the world what we are made of!”

Magpie extraordinaire, Dan Lehane, who grew up in the club is excited to represent the USA. As far as playing with the Revos in Australia, he says, “I hope that as a team we represent America well on and off the field, hopefully taking home some silverware.” Us too, Dan!

The Liberty’s Australian Tour

The Liberty will be traveling around Melbourne playing 5 games, including ones against the Bendigo Thunder and St. Albans Saints. Similar to the Freedom’s 2009 Australian Tour around Australia, the Liberty will gain extensive experience on the field playing local Aussie women’s teams. For Alison Vorsatz, the opportunity to play for the Liberty and represent the USA is one of “the greatest honors and responsibilities” of her life. Vorsatz says to be named to the team “makes all of the hard work I’ve put in to achieve this milestone undeniably worth it.”

We are extremely excited for our Magpie men and women who have achieved this awesome honor! We know that you will represent the Magpies name proudly in Australia!
