Magpies punish undermanned Baltimore-Washington

After an win against the Baltimore-Washington Eagles a couple of weeks prior the Magpies traveled to Philadelphia on Saturday May 19th to take on the Eagles again as part of a tournament also involving the Philadelphia Hawks and a composite team from Ontario. The Magpies were full of confidence after the earlier win over Baltimore and the return of some key players only added to the belief amongst the group.

New York picked up where it left from the last match and came out with intent and Baltimore-Washington had no answer for the precise ball movement and strong marking targets in the Magpies forward line. The midfield of B Murphy, Taylor, Desai, Barlaz, Smith and Mantzaris all had plenty of the ball and giving forwards Felsenthal, Smiley, Donner, Melo and Dixon many opportunities. They capitalized with goals two goals each to Felsenthal and Davis and a single to Dixon which saw the Magpies go into the break with a 5 goal lead.

Baltimore raised their game in the second half and kicked a couple of quick majors however, McMaster, Kyle, Caine, Conor Walsh, Bennett and Scott all stood firm in the backline and ensured the Magpies got back on top.

Boyle, Thompson, Danilo and Mike Murphy racked up plenty of touches as they helped NY reestablish a 5 goal buffer with Dixon and Kyle kicking truly. New York held strong and ran out winners, 7.5 47 to Baltimore-Washington 2.1 13.

After the match Magpies leadership team member Mike Murphy said “It was strong effort from the boys and great to get some key players back and some game time into our newer players. We can’t get too carried away with the result as Baltimore were missing a few but it’s always better to go home a winner”.

Best: Felsenthal, Smith, Mantzaris, Kyle, Desai
