Details of the New York Magpies 2012 schedule were outlined by Men’s Coach Glenn Ormsby and Women’s Coordinator Andrea Casillas at the Season Launch Pub Crawl which saw players new and old and supporters visit club sponsors The Australian NYC and Galway Hooker as well as Wharf Bar.
Training will commence on Tuesday March 13th at Gantry Plaza in Long Island City before the games start the week after the Magpies ANZAC Day event on April 21st. April 28th will see the men’s team head to Boston to take on arch rivals the Boston Demons in the ANZAC Plate while the Lady Pies will begin their season across the border visiting Montreal.
The men’s team then heads to Chicago for games on May 5th before games against Baltimore-Washington and Philadelphia and a tournament, also in Philadelphia, involving teams from Ontario and Fort Lauderdale into early June. It’s likely that the Lady Pies will join the men for some or all of the games in Baltimore and Philadelphia.
June and July will be primarily reserved for the NYCAFL competition with rumors that defending champions the Village Bohemians are already in training. The Lady Pies will travel to Minnesota to compete in a tournament at some stage during July while the men’s team hosts Florida and North Carolina on July 28th for the first home games of the season.
After the mid-season break in August Boston and Baltimore-Washington will visit New York during September (likely with the Lady Demons and Lady Eagles joining their men’s teams). The New York Magpies massive AFL Grand Final event will cap September on Friday the 28th.
Finally, with the regular season over, the New York Magpies will head to Mason, Ohio over the weekend of the 13th and 14th of October to seek national championships for all teams.
A full season schedule will be posted on nyfooty.com soon. 2012, year of the Magpies!
