Magpies taking it to the Kids

As part of the NY Magpies effort to grow AFL in NYC and the US, the Pies took it to the kids at The Allen-Stevenson School on the Upper East side, last weekend, as part of their International Day.  Regarded as one of the best all-boys schools in NYC, it was an honor for the club to be invited to participate and promote our great game to the students.

Thanks to Deb Wheeler, Simon Smith and the other Australian parents at the school for having us and making it such a great day.  In attendance were Glenn Ormsby (Player/Coach), Brett Smiley, Andy Brennan (Captain), and Joel Keating.

The club hopes to do more events like this in years to come and is already planning it’s next few clinics to take advantage of having 2005 AFL premiership player & 2004 All-Australian, Brett Kirk and his family in town in June this year.  In addition to being the Sydney Swans Best and Fairest in 2005 & 2007, he has also recently taken on the title of AFL Ambassador Youth Mentor 2011, AFL International Cup Ambassador 2011, and AFL Premiership Cup Ambassador 2011.  We look forward to having Brett in the Big Apple!

Who knows, in doing these sessions, we may just stumble upon the US-version of Brett Kirk in years to come.
