In the second round of the EAFL (Eastern Australian Football League), the New York Magpies took on the North Carolina Tigers at Ho Ho Kus High School in New Jersey.
The match started out fairly even with both teams entering their forward lines and creating chances to score. However, as the quarter progressed, New Yorkâ€™s superior skills shown and was able to clear the ball from the centre through some strong work from their midfielders. With clean disposal the Pies were able to skip away to a 5 goal lead at the first change.
The second quarter saw more of the same with New York piling on 7 goals to the Tigers 1. The half time break was welcomed by both clubs as the searing heat continued to belt down on the players necks.
The third and fourth quarters saw more of a tense struggle as the heat took its toll on the players but New York were still able to find the goals. New York was far too skillful and experienced for the young Tigers outfit and their ability to hit their targets through accurate disposal and create space with their superior fitness was too much for North Carolina. The New York Magpies skipped away to win by 88 points, 16.21(117) to 3.10(28).
This was New Yorkâ€™s second win from two matches which sees them sit atop the ladder.
Their next game is August 12th vs. Chicago in New York with a specific venue to be decided.
